Göbekli Tepe, Turkey

Göbekli Tepe is one of the world’s oldest known monumental archaeological sites, dating to around 9600 BCE. The site features massive stone pillars arranged in circular enclosures, many carved with images of animals and abstract symbols. These structures predate agriculture and settled civilization, suggesting that organized religious practices may have motivated early human community formation. Excavations continue to reveal insights into prehistoric societies and symbolic expression. Göbekli Tepe challenges traditional narratives about human development.
