Mount Rainier is an active stratovolcano and the highest peak in Washington, rising to 14,411 feet southeast of Seattle. It carries more glacial ice than any other peak in the contiguous United States. Subalpine meadows at Paradise fill with wildflowers in summer, while the summit stays white. On clear days the mountain dominates the skyline from Puget Sound, and it is the centerpiece of Mount Rainier National Park.
