Cozumel is an island and municipality off the eastern coast of Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula, in the Caribbean Sea, within the state of Quintana Roo. It lies opposite Playa del Carmen, separated from the mainland by the Cozumel Channel. The island covers an area of about 647 km² and its main town is San Miguel de Cozumel.
