Joshua Tree National Park in Southern California is where the Mojave and Colorado deserts meet. Twisted Joshua trees, piles of pale monzogranite, and open desert basins define the scenery. The rock formations are a major climbing destination, and spring can bring short-lived wildflower blooms. Summers are extremely hot, so most visits fall between autumn and spring. The park sits east of the Palm Springs area.
