Route 66, USA

U.S. Route 66, also known as the "Mother Road" or the "Main Street of America," was one of the original highways in the U.S. Highway System. Established in 1926, it originally ran from Chicago, Illinois, through Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona before ending in Santa Monica, California. It covered a total of 2,448 miles and became a major path for those who migrated west, especially during the Dust Bowl of the 1930s. The road supported the economies of the communities through which it passed, becoming the birthplace of many quirky roadside attractions, neon signs, and family-owned diners. Although it was officially decommissioned in 1985, segments designated as Historic Route 66 continue to be a nostalgic destination for travelers seeking a classic Americana experience.
