Acadia National Park protects a rocky Atlantic coastline, granite mountains, and spruce forest, mostly on Mount Desert Island in Maine. It was the first national park established east of the Mississippi River. Cadillac Mountain is often among the first places in the country to see the sunrise. Carriage roads and stone bridges funded by John D. Rockefeller Jr. wind through the park, and Bar Harbor is the main gateway town.
